MMbro in T.O! {recap}
Yasas my dears!
Looks like I’m on my way back to that whole daily blog post thing - remember when that used to happen?
I’ve got a lot to catch up on after my sick spell, so let’s take a trip to the past together so I can fill you in on my little bro’s visit to Toronto!
I love it when family and friends come to visit because it gives me an opportunity to experience my town with fresh eyes. Toronto is actually pretty cool once you get to know it, although the winters here make me long for the beach and the tepid nightlife makes me miss Montreal, haha.
The MMbro arrived at the loft, opened his suitcase and immediately lost custody of all of his clothing:

Boxlike? Check. Soft? Check. Suitcase now property of Dolce. I love my Dolch-baby's FLUFFY feet <3 <3 <3
There are some things you just have to do when visiting Toronto. First on our list? The CN tower in all its glass-floored awesomeness. {Please excuse the blinding light and poor picture quality. My bberry did her best, but it was a tough environment overall}

My brother has recently decided to start adopting a healthier way of life and I am SO proud of him. He’s gone from eating a carb-loaded red-meat’n bread diet to something including a lot more fruit and veggies and less nutritionless white stuff. I really respect his dedication! When he told me that I’d inspired him to change the way he lives, it almost cried. I’m so HAPPY and excited for him — He has NO idea how good he’s about to feel!!
Having him come visit me was a treat, because I was able to introduce him to some of the treats that the blogworld showed me. He was consistently amazed by how good, filling and -healthy- my bloggified versions were of some of his past-life favorites. Case and point? Pancakes, our breakfast of choice for the weekend:
Do they look familiar? I adapted that classic recipe from the beautiful Kath, at KERF to make a lazy-man’s version that my brother can whip up on a weekday.
In-an-instant Oatmeal Pancakes
- 1-2 packages instant flavored oatmeal. (I use an organic gluten-free cinnamon spice, but Quaker will do if it’s what you’ve got.)
- 1/3+ egg whites (enough to get it nice and wet)
- Splash almond milk, splash vanilla
- 1/2 tbsp baking powder
Err… that’s it. Garnish as you will. J’s favorite was with icing sugar, fruit, and maple syrup whereas I tend to enjoy bananas and peanut butter <3
- Question: What is your favorite blogger recipe? Comment with the link so I can try it too!
We also, of course, hit up Fresh, the establishment that’s been converting meat eaters to tofu for years ^~ J was sold on a bean burrito with quinoa onion rings and Andrew demolished a Miso Burger. I was sick at the time, unfortunately, but I managed to eat some of my beloved Green Goddess bowl (sans tofu).

I LOVE Fresh for so many reasons. Their meals are delicious, their staff generally delightful and, importantly, they manage to satisfy my favorite carnivores without a speck of meat. There’s a balance to maintain when you aren’t the biggest fan of meat products but must cope with the fact that you’re surrounded by people who are.
Restaurants like Fresh are great because there’s something for everybody
To date this is the only place that’ll serve me a salad that I find filling enough to consider a full meal. In fact, I often take home leftovers!
The rest of our weekend consisted of renting movies, exploring Toronto and a trip to Canada’s Wonderland for some epic roller-coaster action (I had to sit out on a lot of this to give my poor stomach a bit of a break. Roller coasters just wouldn’t have been fair, haha!). It was great to have him here – I can’t wait until he visits again!
I’ll leave you on that note until tomorrow, I’ve got an even LONGER recap for you of my week at home + one of my favorite MMmom recipes.
Lots of love!
